How did the Vikings preserve food?

In Viking times there were no fridges or freezers, yet food had to last through long, harsh winters. P6 took part in a fun science investigation yesterday learning about one of the method the Vikings used to preserve food, drying. Our experiment shows how living organisms like yeast need water to activate. The yeast, sugar and water produce a gas called carbon dioxide which inflated the balloon.
