A Celebration of Words, Stories and Imagination in P5

5th Mar 2026
P5 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day today!
The classroom was filled with creativity as the children arrived dressed to represent a chosen word. From fabulous to sleepy, vibrant to prehistoric, there was an impressive range of imaginative vocabulary on display. Pupils researched their words, exploring definitions, synonyms and antonyms, and proudly shared their findings with the class.
The fun continued with a lively game of Headbands, where each child was given a mystery story character and used only yes–no questions to work out who they were. Laughter and quick thinking filled the room as everyone tried to guess their character correctly.
As part of our ongoing class novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the children were challenged to design their very own magical chocolate bar. Each creation featured a special effect when eaten, and pupils used persuasive writing techniques—such as alliteration, catchy slogans and vivid adjectives—to advertise their delicious inventions. We had chocolate bars that could transport you to space, help you sleep and even turn you invisible. Of course, a little chocolate tasting was essential to spark imaginations!
To finish the day, P5 enjoyed a special storytelling experience inside a magical Story Dome. The immersive visuals and sound brought The Salmon of Knowledge to life, creating a captivating atmosphere the children loved.
It truly was a fantastic celebration of World Book Day and a wonderful reminder of the power of reading to transport us from reality into worlds of adventure and imagination.
