Earth's Core
As part of our “Active Planet” topic, Primary 5/6 have been on a journey to the very centre of the Earth—without ever leaving the classroom! Our mission: to discover what lies beneath our feet and understand the mysterious layers that make up our planet.
Teamwork in Action
To kick things off, the children worked together in small groups, reading and following instructions to make their very own playdough. There was lots of measuring, mixing, and a little bit of mess—just the way we like it! Each group chose different colours to represent the Earth’s layers.
Building Our Earth Models
Once the playdough was ready, the real fun began. The children carefully moulded each layer, wrapping one colour around another to build up their own mini Earths. There was lots of discussion about which layer came next and what each one was made of. It was fantastic to see everyone helping each other and sharing ideas.
The Big Reveal
The most exciting moment came when we cut our playdough Earths in half. What a surprise! The children gasped as the colourful layers were revealed, just like the diagrams we’d seen in our books. Suddenly, the structure of the Earth made perfect sense—seeing it in 3D brought our learning to life.
