P5 Story Stars at the Seamus Heaney Centre
What an exciting and inspiring afternoon our Primary five pupils enjoyed after school today!
A group of our P5 children were invited by the facilitators of the Fighting Words NI programme to attend a very special writing event at the Seamus Heaney Centre. It was an unforgettable experience filled with creativity, imagination and expert advice from two very special guests — children’s author and Laureate na nÓg, Patricia Forde, and renowned illustrator Paul Howard.
Patricia shared her top tips and “secret ingredients” for becoming a successful writer and treated the children to a wonderful reading of one of her captivating stories. Paul delighted everyone as he brought the children’s imaginative ideas to life through his live illustrations, showing them how pictures can transform a story.
Inspired and full of creative energy, our pupils then had the opportunity to write their own short stories and add their own fantastic illustrations. Their ideas, enthusiasm and talent truly shone!
To make the day even more memorable, the BBC was there to film the event as part of their World Book Day coverage. Some of our pupils may even appear on television next Thursday! The BBC team praised the children for being outstanding role models for our school, highlighting their creativity, confidence, and excellent writing and drawing skills.
It was a fabulous afternoon that celebrated storytelling, imagination and the joy of reading and writing. We are incredibly proud of our talented Primary 5 pupils!
