P5 had a busy, but brilliant day continuing their exciting study of the Titanic. Today, the children launched their new writing genre for the term — newspaper reports. They explored how to write in chronological order by carefully sequencing the key events of the Titanic’s sinking, deepening their understanding of how accurate reports clearly inform the reader.
The children examined real newspaper articles, highlighting the key features of effective reports, before sharpening their skills by creating eye-catching headlines using alliteration, powerful verbs and emotive language.
Learning didn’t stop there! In science, the class investigated floating and sinking: they experimented to discover how objects that can float can be made to sink — and even how objects that sink can be adapted to make them float!
A jam-packed day full of creativity, curiosity and critical thinking — well done, P5!
